Plumber in Scarborough, Trigg, Doubleview and Innaloo

Scarborough’s 24-level Observation City went up on the beachfront in 1986, despite a long public campaign against high-rise on the coast. A few streets inland, Doubleview and Innaloo are mostly timber-frame houses from the war years and just after. Strata risers on the coast, and pipework from the 1940s and ’50s in unrenovated homes behind it.

The short answer

Yes, McDermott Plumbing covers Scarborough, Trigg, Doubleview, Innaloo, Woodlands and Churchlands for licensed plumbing and gas: burst pipes, blocked drains, hot water repairs and replacements, leak detection and gas fitting, in houses and strata buildings. Call (08) 6187 3999 or text 0406 882 648. From our Ellenbrook base this is a cross-town run to the coast, so we’ll give you a real ETA when you ring rather than a guess.

Beachfront apartments, wartime streets behind them

Scarborough Beach is the entertainment strip. Observation City (now the Rendezvous) has stood over it since 1986, and apartment and strata blocks line the streets behind the beach. That means strata plumbing: shared risers, leaks that travel between units, and access through a building manager.

Inland the housing changes quickly. Doubleview’s northern streets started with timber-frame houses the State built for returning soldiers after the Second World War. Most Innaloo homes are single detached timber-frame houses from around the war years, and the suburb was essentially built out by 1970. Trigg only began to develop in the late 1940s; Clarko Reserve sits where the old beach shacks were cleared, and the shack owners were given blocks further east.

Woodlands, Churchlands and the rebuild blocks

Woodlands started to develop in the 1960s. Huntriss Road (then Lake View Road) was developed in 1964 on blocks of about a fifth of an acre, with Jackadder Lake behind it. Churchlands is newer again: most homes there went up after the 1980s, and the old Edith Cowan University campus became the Churchlands Green estate, with Herdsman Lake along the suburb’s eastern edge.

Larger 1960s blocks this close to the coast are where knockdown-rebuilds and subdivisions tend to happen. If you’re keeping the older house and renovating it, we do bathrooms, hot water moves and the repairs that turn up once the walls are open. If a new build is going up, Water Corporation requires the builder’s plumber to confirm where the sewer connection point is, and how deep, before work starts on site, which is worth asking about early on an old block.

What we see around Scarborough and Innaloo

The jobs here follow the age of the house and how close it is to the water:

  • Beachfront strata blocks: leaks from one unit into the next, shared hot water and risers, and after-hours access. Give us the strata manager’s details when you book so the invoice and report go to the right party.
  • Salt air on outdoor hot water units, taps and exposed copper in the first few streets back from West Coast Highway: corroded brackets, flue terminals and isolation valves.
  • Unrenovated Doubleview and Innaloo homes from the 1940s and ’50s: original supply pipework, and sewer lines far older than the 15-year mark Water Corporation gives for homes that are less likely to have PVC pipe and more likely to take tree roots.
  • Woodlands and Doubleview streets with established trees: slow drains, gurgling toilets and an overflow relief gully that fills up when roots get into an older sewer joint.
  • Churchlands and Woodlands homes from the 1980s onward: hot water units on their first or second replacement, and braided flexi hoses old enough to let go.

Common questions

Which suburbs does this page cover?
Scarborough, Trigg, Doubleview, Innaloo, Woodlands and Churchlands. Osborne Park, Balcatta and Herdsman have their own page. If you’re not sure, call (08) 6187 3999 with the street.
Is Scarborough a long way from Ellenbrook?
It’s a cross-town run to the coast, not a local hop, so the ETA depends on where we are and the traffic when you ring. We’ll give you a real time rather than a guess. For non-urgent work, booking ahead is the easiest way to fit you in.
Do you work in Scarborough apartment buildings?
Yes. Leaks, blocked drains, hot water and gas inside a unit, and work on shared services when the strata manager authorises it. Tell us who manages the building and how we get access.
My Doubleview house still has its original plumbing. What should I watch for?
Damp patches on walls, a water meter that keeps ticking when every tap is off, slow drains or a gurgling toilet. Old pipes can be fine for years and then fail. If you’ve had one leak, we can find it and tell you honestly whether the rest of the run looks sound.
Can you help with the plumbing on a Woodlands or Churchlands renovation?
Yes. We do bathroom renovations and can move or replace a hot water unit as part of the job. Tell us what’s changing and we’ll say what plumbing it needs before we start.
