Hydro jetting is a high-pressure water jet on a flexible hose, fed into the drain from an inspection shaft or gully. McDermott Plumbing uses it when a cable drain machine isn’t enough — tree roots, hardened grease, sand and scale that a blade can leave behind. It clears what is inside the pipe; it doesn’t fix a cracked or collapsed section. We’re based in Ellenbrook and cover Perth north of the river and the western suburbs to Mosman Park. Call (08) 6187 3999 or text 0406 882 648. For the full drains overview, see our McDermott Drains page.
Typical jobs
- Tree roots choking older clay or earthenware sewer lines
- Grease and fat build-up in kitchen and shared lines
- Sand and grit in coastal outdoor gullies and stormwater
- Scale and sludge left after a partial cable clear
- Follow-up flush after a drain camera finds the problem spot
What to expect
- 1We find the inspection shaft or the closest sensible access point and choose a drain machine or the hydro jetter for what’s in the pipe.
- 2Jetting scour the inside of the pipe and flushes the debris downstream. You’ll see the difference when we run water through afterwards.
- 3If the line has blocked before, or we suspect a broken section, we can put a camera down to see the cause and how far along it is — see our CCTV drain inspection page.
- 4Jetting won’t repair a cracked, displaced or collapsed pipe. If that’s what we find, we tell you straight and talk through the options, including work we don’t do ourselves such as relining or excavation.
Common questions
- What is hydro jetting?
- A high-pressure water jet on a hose, run through the drain from a shaft or gully. It cuts roots and scours grease, sand and scale off the pipe wall, then flushes the debris down the line.
- When do you jet instead of using a drain machine?
- When roots, grease, sand or scale need more than a cable clear, or when a line keeps blocking after being snaked. Simple one-off chokes often clear with a drain machine first.
- Does jetting fix a broken pipe?
- No. It clears what’s inside. A cracked, dropped or collapsed pipe still needs repair. We’ll tell you if that’s what the camera or the clear shows.
- Do you cover my suburb for hydro jetting?
- We jet across Perth north of the Swan River and the western suburbs down to Mosman Park. Call (08) 6187 3999 or text 0406 882 648 with your suburb and what’s happening.
